More EU academics are leaving the UK

eu 1473958

Over 2,300 EU academics have resigned from British universities over the past year, Federica Tedeschi writes. According to the press, they are worried about their post-Brexit rights.

Other figures show a 19 per cent increase in departures of EU academics last year compared to the picture before the referendum, The Independent newspaper reported.

The paper cited a freedom of information request by the Liberal Democratic party to 105 universities across the country. The University of Oxford reported the highest number of resignations.

Meanwhile, the recent joint government report on Brexit negotiations confirms the rights of EU academics currently in UK, which may help British universities to stem the flow of talented European researchers.

In June 2016 Britain voted to leave the European Union by 52 per cent; Brexit is the shorthand way of saying ‘the UK leaving the EU’.
