Egyptian children start learning English at kindergarten

The Egyptian Government has confirmed that, from this month, EFL will form part of the kindergarten curriculum for 4-6 year olds, the Egyptian Street reported.

Minister of Education, Tarek Shawky, said that the new system aims to ensure that young students master Arabic while acquiring Basic English by the time they go to primary school, according to the local press.

Arabic will remain the main medium of education in state schools following the closure last year of the bilingual experimental schools. Also on the agenda a second foreign language to be introduced in the first year of elementary education.

 

The new system will also incorporate technology with internet access promised in over 2,000 schools.
