In the first case of its kind, a former secondary school student in Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia is suing her former English language teacher for ‘refusing to teach the English language’ to her, reports the Daily Express.

Irish senator Lynn Ruane has condemned the ‘terrible conditions under which English language teachers… are working’ in the country.

The independent senator was speaking during debate on the Qualifications and Quality Assurance (Education and Training) Bill 2018. This empowers the regulator, Quality & Qualifications Ireland (QQI), to scrutinise the financial capacity of ELT providers, but omits mention of employment law compliance.

OVER 15,000 Thai teachers are now using English more often in their classes, following a three week ‘boot camp’ run by the British Council. Over 90 per cent of attendees reported their ‘subject knowledge’ of English had improved.
