Douglas Bell, Garnet Education;
The second edition of this eighty-page skills book aims to prepare B2–C2 students to give an academic presentation. The six units cover getting started, organising a presentation, dealing with questions, impact, visual aids and persuasive presentations. There are tips on body language, using note cards, citing sources and relaxation techniques. Appropriate attention is given to phonology. The list of linking phrases is useful. The videos of presentations, available on the internet, include transcripts. Some topics are rather quirky, such as the Loch Ness monster and Tarantino films, but users are encouraged to apply the material to their own contexts. Worth investigation.
