This compact 160-page book aims to help users ‘build better relationships through successful conversations’. Small Talk should, I believe, help users achieve this goal. It is designed for B1+ business English students. Part A contains thirteen chapters and focuses on face-to-face encounters. Part B (three chapters) looks at distance communication via phone, email and social media. Part C provides tips for communication strategies. Each chapter has a clear structure, providing aims, a quiz to help develop self-awareness, lists of key phrases, ‘Scenarios’ containing key language in context and ‘Over to you’ sections, which offer opportunities for students to personalise the input. The ‘Remember this’ sections are a highlight, providing fascinating information about culture and common business practice. The real-life audio is available online. Recommended.
