Structuring Fun for Young Learners in the ELT Classroom

Chris Roland

Pavilion Publishing and Media

ISBN: 9781913414535

This 364-page resource book starts with the premise that teaching young learners can be fun. It offers a wealth of practical ideas for teaching English to primary school children and attempts to explore the underlying principles behind these activities to ensure that they are effective in terms of learning. We begin with a succinct list of the author’s central principles, like: “Embrace the imaginary and make time for play.” The sixteen chapters cover the fundamentals of classroom management and focus on aspects of ‘Fun’ – including using novelty objects, space, movement, personalisation, games and stories. The book is imaginative, humorous and often inspirational; it is liberally illustrated with photographs. The author’s style is highly personable. Should prove useful for new and experienced teachers of children. Recommended.
