Cambridge University Press & Assessment and the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine (MoES) are joining forces to kickstart English language learning across the country.
An agreement was signed by Oksen Lisovyi, Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine, and Francesca Woodward, managing director for English at Cambridge University Press & Assessment at a ceremony in Cambridge.
Francesca Woodward said: “We want to help strengthen Ukrainians’ connections with the wider world. This initiative will create new opportunities for Ukrainians. We know that developing real-life English language skills can dramatically improve people’s prospects and this new partnership will focus on developing English language education across the country. We will work with Ukraine’s Ministry of Education and Science to explore new ways of delivering teacher training and professional development, tailored to the needs and goals of Ukrainian educators and students.”
Oksen Lisovyi said: “English is the language of science, education, and international communication. Its development in Ukraine strengthens our country’s position on the global stage. The partnership with Cambridge University Press & Assessment will enhance the quality of English teaching, updating teacher training approaches, and expanding opportunities for Ukrainian pupils and students. Proficiency in English provides access to leading educational programmes, scientific research, and professional growth — all of which are especially important as Ukraine integrates into the global community.”
During the Cambridge visit, senior representatives from Ukraine’s MoES discussed plans for closer collaboration with Cambridge on teacher training, ministry-level projects and the benefits of the Cambridge English Exams which are recognised by more than 25,000 organisations around the world as proof of English language ability.
One of the delegation, Albina Tsiatkovska, general director of the International Cooperation Directorate, recently visited Cambridge as an HP Cambridge Partnership for Education EdTech Fellow, a programme for policy makers to grow knowledge and skills, and lead transformations in education systems.
