500 ideas for teacher training in English language teaching

Beth Melia-Leigh and Nicholas Northall

Pavilion Publishing and Media Ltd

ISBN 9781913414160

This 268-page resource book provides ideas for new and experienced teacher trainers, working in pre- and in-service training. The eight sections move systematically from ‘Getting started’ through input sessions, teaching practice, lesson observation and feedback to ‘Ending a course and further development’. Given the current, emergency shift to online teaching, I was delighted to read Unit 43 on online and blended teacher training, and further tips on using online forums. There is useful input on mentoring, dealing with difficult trainees and self-reflection; the Appendix is extensive. I enjoyed reading several illuminating quotes from well-known trainers like Tessa Woodward. 10 useful practical resource books are suggested, although I would appreciate additional help locating suitable theoretical books. This highly-practical book will certainly be welcomed by teacher trainers.
