English to be taught in Jerusalem pre-schools

A pilot programme to teach English in 50 of Jerusalem’s kindergartens will begin next spring, according to The Jerusalem Post. If successful, the programme will be rolled out to all of the city’s pre-schools from September 2023, which is the start of the school year there.

Up until now, it has been mandatory for children in Israel to learn English from fourth grade, where it is taught as the second language, though the majority of schools teach it from third grade. Jerusalem’s state kindergartens cater for children aged from three to six and attending school is compulsory from the age of the three.

As a side note, written English in Israel tends toward using American spelling, punctuation and grammar.
